The Ford Maverick is a small pickup truck designed to get the big jobs done. It comes standard with a hybrid powertrain and offers a turbo gas engine as an option. For the 2023 model year, a new Tremor Off-Road trim joins the lineup with some extra off-road features and a lifted suspension, and a Tremor Appearance Package package adds some extra exterior features.
Trim Levels
The entry-level Maverick XL comes with 17-inch steel wheels, LED headlights, power windows, and rear cargo bed lighting. A step up to the XLT upgrades the 17-inch wheels and adds a power tailgate lock, power-adjustable side mirrors with a spotter mirror, a full-size spare, and a trailer hitch receiver. It also comes with LED bed lighting and a power outlet in the bed. The Tremor Package for the XLT has an off-road suspension, skid plates, and all-terrain tires. You can also get the FX4 Off-Road Package or the Black Appearance Package. Bumping up to the top-level Lariat builds on the XLT with 18-inch wheels and LED lighting.
Engine
The standard powertrain for the 2023 Maverick is a hybrid system that consists of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine and electric motor. These combine to generate 191 horsepower and use a continuously variable transmission (CVT) to send power to the front wheels. An optional 2-liter turbo four-cylinder gas engine develops 250 horsepower and works with either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. This engine uses an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Performance
The hybrid powertrain has plenty of power for this small pickup truck and will reach 60 mph in just 7.7 seconds. The turbo four-cylinder is even faster, getting you up to speed in 5.9 seconds. When equipped with the hybrid, the Maverick can haul a 1,500-pound payload and tow up to 2,000 pounds, while the gas engine can tow up to 4,000 pounds. Off-road enthusiasts will benefit from the Trail Control system with the Tremor Off-Road Package, which acts like a cruise control system for off-road conditions.
Interior
All Maverick trims come with a crew cab that seats up to five people. It comes standard with cloth upholstery, air conditioning, and storage under the rear seats. You'll get a power-adjustable driver's seat in the Lariat, and adding the Luxury Package to this trim gets you heated seats and a heated steering wheel. Technology features include an 8-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and six-speaker stereo in the XL, with the option for wireless charging, and the Sync 3 infotainment system in the Lariat with the Luxury Package. This package also upgrades the stereo to a Bang & Olufsen premium system.
Safety Features
Every 2023 Ford Maverick comes with the Ford CoPilot360 bundle. It includes a forward collision warning system with pedestrian detection, automatic braking, automatic high-beam headlights, lane-departure alert, lane-keep assist, and a tire pressure monitor. The Lariat offers the Co-Pilot360 Assist Package with adaptive cruise control with Stop-and-Go, rear parking sensors, lane-centering assist, and evasive steering assist. A blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert is also available for the Lariat.
